This project was done for my Spring 2023 Type & Image course at New Paltz. The goal here was to design a campain for one of the United Nation's Global Goals for sustainable development, and I chose the topic I was most passionate for: water sanitation. From early on, I knew that finding a strong visual juxtaposition between clean water and gross pollution would be key to showing my message of advocacy.
I was able to find harmony in balancing the weight of the poster when translating it to a horizontal layout. There was some difficulty in spotlighting the garbage imagry, but the message still rings through. Breaking down the basic elements of the design made this easy.
The centerpiece of was this poster. Basic image editing brought out the refreshing water against the disgusting landscape behind it.
To help visualize the synergy of the campaign, I created this Instagram mockup.
Translating my poster design to a hat was a challenge, though I quickly realized restraining the juxtaposed imagery to within the letterforms of the type.
